Your Favorite Music Memory Could Earn You a Kenrix Dinner Certificate

Ramona Music Fest comes back to town this Saturday. Let's get in the mood. Tell us about your memorable music experiences. A winner will be randomly chosen at 9 a.m. Friday.

So you're dancing with someone special and just at the right moment, the band begins to play ... what song was that?

We want to know!

Or, you're cruising down the highway on a fabulous Southern California day and suddenly, a blast from the past hits the airwaves, making you belt it out loud for the next 3 miles.

What was that song?

Maybe it was some great concert ...

Or maybe it was the first time you sang in front of an audience and ended it with that amazing feeling—"I did it!" (Maybe you were in the audience instead, telling someone, "That's my girl!")

Your recollections, told in our comments section, could earn you a $25 certificate for a meal at , home of Ramona's open mic night on Thursdays. (Musicians come from all over to perform.) There's no deadline by which you need to use it. The winner will be chosen by using a random number generator. Entrants can post a comment each day on this article or our stories on and , two of the bands that will perform.

Then join Patch at , 12-5 p.m. Saturday at . There'll be two stages of music from San Diego County bands, a beer and wine garden, silent auction, reverse raffle and children's activities. Click here for information on the band line-up, tickets, auction items and the grand reverse raffle prize.

The Fest is a fundraiser for local Rotary and Kiwanis projects and scholarships.

My favorite music memory was the final concert of the Simon and Garfunkle Tour in 2005. I had joined my daughter in Paris where she had been studying Art History and French with a group from Grossmont College for the summer. We had traveled through Italy touring all the famous art museums and were in Rome in our hotel room reading our first English language newspaper in weeks when I saw a small one paragraph announcement of a free concert in front of the Coliseum to conclude their Europeon reunion tour. We and 80,000 other people from all over the world, spent a wonderful evening listening to our favorite music. We sat on the cobble stone street and shared with a group of teenage girls who had driven from the Swiss border with northern Italy, and another couple from Mexico City. It was already a wonderful memory when the crowd saw the full moon rise in an arch of the Coliseum and an almost audible catch in the breath of the crowd was heard. It is a sweet memory, especially since all those people from varied backgrounds and different countries, then all walked out of the area wrapped in the sweetness of the evening with no problems or incidents to mar the evening. A wonderful experience of how the world should be.

Zara commented on the Cactus, Twang, Whyte, Grano & Nash story: http://patch.com/A-rWgB To pick the winner, we allotted a number to each entrant and then used a random number generator. Thanks to all who participated. It was fun hearing the stories.

I have emailed you twice and posted this information on Facebook! What is the problem? Not trying to be unpleasant, just really was excited about getting to use my gift certificate. Is there a communication gap?

Just a concerned citizen June 18, 2013 at 07:54 pm
Did you first ask him WHAT he was spraying? Is it possible that he heard some attitude in yourRead More request and then felt that you were "just another nosy neighbor" ? -- Not that you are or were. -- If the overspray was in fact a listed chemical (such as glyphosate or 2,4,D) then you are within your right to be concerned. If he he unresponsive or unwilling to allay your concerns then it is your right and responsibility to contact the authorities. In the case that he was (or you have sound reason to believe, i.e., dead plants on your property) using a listed chemical such as above then contact California Department of Pesticide Regulation at the Southern Regional Office 714-279-7690. I will warn you that if you only suspect misuse and have no proof, there will be nothing done. Good Luck.

Sorry dont have an answer for your problem. I had a problem with a neighbor and had to sell my homeRead More to get away from them. However, I wanted to point out something you may not have thought about. Your fruit tree stores those chemicals in the fruit and you ingest them if you eat it! If he wont tell you what he sprayed, throw away the fruit this year. My advice is dont plant fruit trees near a property line because you cannot control what they absorb through their roots either. It isnt worth you or your family getting sick. Fruits and vegetables must be sprayed with certain types of sprays to allow them to be edible. Just not worth the risk.

I'm a 20-year vet. While in the US NAVY serving on Okinawa, Japan, I managed the Command Duty OfficeRead More for 1-1/2 years. I had 3 flag poles for US, UN, and Japan. Winds were typically over 40 to 50 mhp and flag wear was constant. I had to destroy flags frequently. My "ceremony" was private, out of public site, the flag was in a paper bag, never seen by anybody. I don't care who you are or your intentions, but a burning US flag should never be a ceremony, nor recorded, unless in protest against US policy.
kjmorris1 June 19, 2013 at 11:42 am
According to the National Flag Code, any American flag that is worn, damaged or tattered beyondRead More repair should be retired in a respectful and dignified manner. The preferred method is burning. This may shock some people, since it is a well known fact that burning the flag is illegal. This, however, is an exception to the rule. You can burn the flag yourself, making sure it is done in a discreet and professional manner, or many organizations like the American Legion, the Boy Scouts Council and the Girl Scouts Council will perform a flag retirement ceremony and burn your flag for you. In this case, burning signifies purification and rebirth. Although burning is the preferred method, it is also acceptable to seal your old flag in a box or bag and bury it. The most important factor is showing respect to the flag during its disposal.

I totally agree with this C.C.!! How awful to see our trees treated in this most disrespectful way!Read More Not only does driving nails into the trees open them up to disease, it looks so very tacky! Come on, folks, isn't there a better way to advertise your yard sales???
Mercedes Winton Jones June 16, 2013 at 03:51 pm
I think signs should have an date & address on them, that way if they are left up afterwards,Read More there would be some way to fine people. Place the fine on the property. I love garage sales, and signs are necessary, but they have to come down afterwards.
