UT Highlights Bulldogs Football and Ramona's Rural Image

Ramona Bulldogs are on fire this football season, drawing attention not only to the team, but also to the rural community supporting the team.

U-T San Diego Sports section recently published a photo of four Ramona linemen atop horses across the top of the page, and last week the U-T Preps page posted "Ramona Fans Love Their Bulldogs," with the tag line "Call them hicks, but also call them winners."

Hay in the locker rooms, musical selections like Hank Williams Jr. over the loudspeakers, cowboy hats donned by half the fans, the whiff of manure and even the occasional Sheriff's Deputy on horseback- U-T says these are all signs that you're at a Ramona home game.

Linebacker Travis Kerchner told U-T that other teams fear coming up the hill to Ramona. Perhaps because of statements like lineman Patrick Hastings, who said they're "bred from freshman year to hit people."

The article points out that the one-high school nature of Ramona helps create the town-wide love of the Bulldogs.

Ranked 26 in the state, and one of five teams in the San Diego Section with a 8-1 record, one thing's for sure- the fans are geared up for glory!

The Bulldogs play next at Westview High School 7 p.m. on Friday.
