Should the Ramona Post Office Be Named After Nelson "Mac" MacWilliams? [Blog]

There is an effort underway in Ramona and in the U.S. Congress to name the U.S. Post Office at 1444 Main St. in Ramona in memory of Ramona resident Nelson “Mac” MacWilliams who died in December 2011 in a single vehicle automobile accident. 

MacWilliams worked as a field representative for Congressman Duncan Hunter covering veterans, defense and law enforcement issues in the Congressman’s El Cajon office. MacWilliams was also former executive director of the Ramona Chamber of Commerce. He was a retired Navy chief petty officer and a life member of VFW Post 3783.

It was the VFW Post which recommended the Ramona Post Office be named in his honor, and the effort was endorsed and pursued by Congressman Duncan Hunter. Although the House of Representatives passed the naming bill in 2012, the Senate failed to vote before the term ended, meaning that the effort has to commence anew in the new Congress.

It is important for our lawmakers to know what the people of Ramona think about this issue.  Only by speaking loudly and in great multitude can we influence the course of events and decisions of our lawmakers.  Silence means that they can and will continue to play their Beltway games in the solitude of their own isolated towers.
