Foothills Christian Church of El Cajon will host its 15th annual Youth Venture golf tournament on Friday, Sept. 20, at the San Vicente Resort at San Diego Country Estates, 24157 San Vicente Road in Ramona. The public is invited to play in the fundraiser. Player spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The entry donation to play is $100 per person before Sept. 1 and $125 per person after Sept. 1. The donation includes green fees, cart, tee prizes, goodie gift bag, range balls, putting contest, course games, raffle tickets, snacks, beverages, player awards and an after-golf dinner. Check-in will begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

The par-72, 5,501-yard golf course, designed by golf architect Ted Robinson, is nestled in the rolling hills of Ramona and has been described as one of the most scenic courses in San Diego County.

The golf tournament is Youth Venture’s largest fundraising effort of the year. Proceeds will provide funds to operate the four Youth Venture teen centers in the East County, including two centers in El Cajon and one in Lakeside and one in Santee. Operating costs can reach $15,000 per month, said church officials.
The four centers serve about 1,500 young people each week in grades 6 through 12 with an adult-supervised, after-school program featuring billiards, ping pong, video games, arts and crafts and study areas. Summertime activities include overnight camping excursions, dinners and field trips to local beaches and Southern California attractions. Each center offers a safe environment and one-on-one mentoring with a character-based curriculum that encourages good citizenship and success. A leadership program to help build and develop future community leaders also is available at no cost. The centers are open 362 days a year, Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Church officials said many youngsters spend more than 20 hours a week at the centers.
