Property Tax Revenue Expected to Increase to $4.54 Billion

New assessments on property owners are part of the increase.

Property tax revenues for San Diego county are anticipated to rise by $66 million this fiscal year over last year, Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said Tuesday.

McAllister's office is preparing to mail tax bills to 978,873 property owners. Revenue for the county government is expected to be $4.54 billion, McAllister said.

"This is significant because the last couple of years we have seen drops in the revenue we collect for the county,'' McAllister said. "We owe this increase to a couple of factors: lower number of appeals and new assessments resulting from change of ownerships or new construction.''

He said there will be 244 new taxable parcels for 2011-12.

Last year, the property taxes generated $4.47 billion, according to
McAllister.

He said the first bill becomes delinquent on Dec. 12.
