High Wind Warning for Mountains, Deserts Tuesday; Snow Possible

Isolated damaging gusts up to 80 mph are possible. Snow may fall above 3,500 feet.

Strong and possibly damaging west winds will move into San Diego County's mountains and deserts Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. Up to 3 inches of snow is also possible above 3,500 feet.

The strongest winds are expected mid-afternoon Tuesday through the evening. Sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph are anticipated, with gusts up to 70 mph. Isolated damaging gusts up to 80 mph are possible along the ridge tops, the desert slopes and in the desert foothills of the mountains.

The Ramona area can expect gusts of 25 to 40 mph.

The Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for 6 a.m. Tuesday to 3 a.m. Wednesday for the mountains and deserts. The High Wind Watch for this area is no longer in effect.

The winds could bring minor structural damage, downed trees and power lines and make driving hazardous.

Light to moderate showers are also likely Tuesday and possible Wednesday morning.

Sunshine and calmer weather is due to return to the area by Wednesday afternoon and extend through the weekend.
