County Says 53% of Property Owners Still Owe Property Tax

Property taxes are due Dec. 10.

Less than half of the landowners in San Diego County have paid the first installment of their 2012-13 property taxes, which are due Monday, Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said Wednesday.

Of the 980,654 bills sent to property owners in September, around 513,000 remain unpaid—about 53 percent, McAllister said.

"We are encouraging our taxpayers to pay online, by phone, by mail or at any of our four convenient branch locations," McAllister said. "Parking is limited at the County Administration Building, and for the first time, we will accept ready to drop off check payments curbside at the west end of the north parking lot beginning on Thursday."

The county building's south parking lot is closed for construction of a new waterfront park.

McAllister suggested that property owners avoid the hassle of the downtown project and make payments at one of the branch offices, which will offer extended hours on the due date, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The offices are located in:

  • El Cajon, 200 S. Magnolia St.
  • Chula Vista, 590 Third Ave.
  • Kearny Mesa, 9225 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
  • San Marcos, 141 E. Carmel St.

The branch offices do not accept cash payments. Cash is accepted at the County Administration Center. Property taxes are due Dec. 10.

McAllister said the county expects a haul of $4.6 billion from property taxes this year.

Seriously John...please read the comments from the new Obama appointee Mikey Weinstein- In anRead More interview with the Washington Post, Weinstein called proselytizing a “national security threat.” “And what the Pentagon needs to understand is that it is sedition and treason,” he told the newspaper. “It should be punished.” Perkins said it was troubling the Obama Administration would place so much trust in someone like Weinstein. “Unfortunately, it appears our military is on a forced march away from the very freedoms they are sworn to protect,” he said. “This language from Weinstein that Christians who share their faith or offer comfort to others from their faith in Jesus Christ is “sedition and treason” is a treasonous statement in and of itself.”
