Ramona Boy's Death Caused by 2005 Injury; Father May Face Further Charges

A 6 year old has died of complications from a head injury suffered when he was shaken as an infant, according to authorities.

A 6-year-old boy died at his Ramona home Tuesday of complications from a head injury sustained when he was two months old, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

Paramedics went to the child's adoptive home on Olive Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. and pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

The boy's father served prison time for causing the original injury in the city of San Diego in 2005, according to news reports. The medical examiner on Tuesday listed the manner of death as homicide, with no contributing conditions.

Sheriff's Homicide Lt. Larry Nesbit told Patch that investigators would provide information concerning the child's original injury and the death to the District Attorney's Office and that it would be up to the legal experts to decide whether any further charges would be brought against the child's father.

A spokesman for the district attorney told Patch that, at this stage, there's no way of knowing how long that review will take.

Homicide and chlld abuse investigators were at the home Tuesday.

"We investigate whenever there's an unexpected death of a child," Nesbit said.

KGTV interviewed the boy's adoptive sister and reported the child had suffered from severe disabilities, including blindness, caused by shaken-baby syndrome as an infant, and was bedridden and under hospice care when he died in his sleep.

The child's name was changed after authorities removed him from the abusive home, according to authorities.

Homicide detectives with the San Diego Police Department were investigating the death. The father's name has not been released.
