Ramona Man Arrested, Cyclist Injured in Road Rage Incident on Route 67

Police say Douglas Lane, 50, of Ramona, tried to force his pickup truck into a lane merge and ended up hitting and injuring a bicyclist in Poway.

The driver of a pickup truck has been arrested and charged with reckless driving for trying to force his pickup truck into a lane merge, and then striking and severely injuring a bicyclist on Highway 67 near Poway.

Douglas Lane, 50, of Ramona, was arrested by El Cajon police on a felony warrant Saturday, sheriff's deputy Aaron Meleen said. He was charged with reckless driving causing injury, the deputy said.

Lane was piloting a Dodge 3500 pickup truck northbound on Route 67 where it narrows from two lanes to one north of Poway Road.

The pickup allegedly hit the right side of a northbound sedan as Lane tried to squeeze in from the right. The truck then ran into a bike lane on the right side of the road, and hit the bicyclist, the sheriff's deputy said today.

The bicyclist was taken to Palomar Medical Center and treated for severe injuries, Meleen said.

Investigators later determined that Lane had been driving the truck, Meleen said. A felony warrant was issued for his arrest for suspicion on Nov. 19, and he was arrested Saturday.
