210 Guns Turned In for Gift Cards

—Content provided by County News Center

The latest Guns for Gift Cards exchange resulted in 210 weapons turned over to the Sheriff’s Department.

Among the firearms brought to the department’s San Marcos Station Saturday morning were three assault-style rifles. Deputies also took in one military smoke grenade.

Gun owners received $50 Wal-Mart gift cards for shotguns, handguns and rifles and $150 for assault weapons. The Sheriff's Department will buy the gift cards using asset forfeiture funds.

More events are planned, but you can safely dispose of firearms you no longer want in your home at any time by dropping them off at a Sheriff's Station or Substation. Leave your unloaded firearm in the trunk and notify the reception office.  A deputy will come out to assist you.
