Lightning or ???

Who else saw those weird flashes of light around 7:50 pm tonight? I was leaving the Estates from Arena onto San Vicente.  Several flashes of light were in the Eastern night sky.  I didn't see any clouds in the sky and didn't hear any thunder. I then drove to Hwy 78 and Olive st to pick up my daughter and she and a friend saw the lights too.  What were they?
