Donate Toys for Tots at Ramona Airport

A special event featuring uniformed Marines will be held at the local airport Dec. 8.

You can help the U.S. Marine Corps and County of San Diego put smiles on the faces of less-fortunate children this holiday season. All you have to do is donate a new, unwrapped toy at the Ramona Airtpot during the Marines annual Toys for Tots campaign.

“We are honored," County Board of Supervisors Chairman Ron Roberts said, "to continue working with the Marine Corps on this annual event. It is a great feeling to be involved in the spirit of giving and the toys we collect will help brighten the holidays for many deserving kids.”

Donations are being collected until Dec. 8 at Ramona Airport, as well as other county airports: Borrego Valley Airport, Carlsbad’s Palomar-McClellan Airport and El Cajon’s Gillespie Field. Collections will continue at Fallbrook Airpark through Dec. 15.

Pilots can also fly in their own donations at each of the airports. All toys will be given to children from local communities.

As in past years, two special collection events are scheduled to take place — from 10 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Ramona Airport and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Fallbrook Airpark.

Marines in full dress uniform will greet visitors and personally collect donations at those events. Visitors will also get the chance to see Marine Corps vehicles and private airplanes.

Toys collected each year at Borrego, Carlsbad and El Cajon are flown in to Ramona Airport to be part of its special event.

Last year, the donations included 35 bicycles, and the toys filled 50 large collection boxes—enough to fill two seven-ton trucks and two large vans.

An additional 27 boxes of toys were collected at Fallbrook Airpark.
