FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

See the wild visitors to the Ramona Grasslands along Highland Valley Road, including bald and golden eagles, hawks and other raptors. Bring binoculars and cameras if you have them and wear sensible walking shoes. The Wildlife Research Institute also will let you look through their equipment. Hawk Watch is only held in January and February each year. A gift store offers books, videos, clothes and wildlife related items. Snacks are provided for a small fee.

Where/when: Poway Center for the Performing Arts, Poway, 7 p.m., Feb. 19.

Why Go: For girl power fans. "Barrio Grrrl" tells the story of young Ana, who wants to fight for justice in her neighborhood. The Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences tours with the production.

Price: $5 for youth, $25 for adults.

Where/when: Petco, Escondido, Feb. 19-20.

Why Go: Because the world's not all about cats and dogs. If you prefer  a nice goldfish or a lizard, Petco is hosting a fair to celebrate the new opening of its new aqautic and reptile departments. 

Price: Free.

Where/when: Blue Sky Ecological Reserve, Poway, 9 a.m., Feb. 19.

Why Go: Join docents for a scavenger hunt in the preserve. All ages welcome.
