Horses Seized From Ramona Property Find New Homes Across the Country

A weekend adoption event for 19 horses found homes for all of them. They'll be going as far as Iowa.

A weekend adoption event for 19 horses seized from a property in Ramona ended with every horse headed to a new home.

The horses were either underweight or suffering from various medical issues when County Animal Services took them in last month. Staff nursed them back to health, and the horses were put up for adoption at the department’s animal care facility in Bonita on Saturday.

Prospective adopters had to fill out an application in advance and were preapproved by Animal Services. The horses wound up going to 16 homes, with several pairs of mares and foals going together to new owners.  Some of the adopters came from points around California, and one horse is going to a person in Iowa who sent a representative to pick up the animal.

Of the animals seized originally, one mare and two foals are not ready yet for adoption. They will be sent this week to a rescue group to continue their rehabilitation.
