Nightly Boom Mystifies Ramona Residents

Residents in Ramona, Poway and Rancho Bernardo reported a boom at 8:20 p.m., the second mystery boom reported in San Diego for the day.

After parts of San Diego heard a mystery boom around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Ramona residents reported more loud, unexplained noises that evening around 8:20.

Sean Kilcoyne and Erica Truncale notified Patch on the Ramona Patch Facebook page of a loud noise and rumble. We asked other residents what they experienced, and within an hour of posting, 60 residents, including one from Poway and one from Rancho Bernardo, commented saying they experienced something similar.

Some residents say they just heard the noise, while others reported a rumble or rattle of windows accompanying the strange boom. Facebook users with dogs say the dogs reacted to the noise.

NBC 7 reported that an official with Naval Base Coronado said they heard the 10 a.m. boom, but it was not from training on the island.

There was no noise advisory issued from Camp Pendleton Wednesday and the U.S. Geological Survey reported no earthquakes.
