Ramona Water District Honors Local 4th-Graders

Loreli Ledezma won first place in a poster contest that illustrated "Water is Life!" for the RMWD.

Three local fourth-graders were honored by the Ramona Municipal Water District Tuesday afternoon for their creative posters that illustrated how water affects their lives.

The winners come from Ramona Community School, Ramona Elementary and Barnett Elementary.

An annual poster contest is held each year by the North County Water Agencies that involves local students from each water district. The winners of the contest get to have their picture printed in the agencies' 2013 calendar and win a small prize from RMWD.

"It's so much fun and a benefit, we think, to the children and to the community," said District General Manager David Barnum. "The fourth graders have done a wonderful job!"

This year's theme for the poster contest was "Water is Life!" and asked the children to illustrate how water affects their lives, ways to conserve and prevent pollution and how water has been used throughout history.

The winner of the contest was Loreli Ledezma, from Mrs. McNulty's class at Ramona Community School.

"My favorite way to save water is to turn off the water when brushing my teeth," Loreli said.

Second place poster winner was Andrea Corona, from Ms. Ramirez's class at Ramona Elementary and third place winner was George Cohen, from Ms. Barlow's class at Barnett Elementary School.

Water Board President Darrell Beck presented the fourth graders with their certificates and a small prize from the district.
