Friday Night Collision Claims Ramona Man's Life

Gregg Beason, 45, passed away Monday late afternoon, the San Diego Medical Examiner said.

A Friday evening accident last week involving two cars in the Country Estates has claimed the life of Ramona resident Gregg Beason, the San Diego Medical Examiner reported Tuesday.

California High Patrol Officer Brian Pennings said the collision took place at 6:58 p.m. on March 1 after Beason, who was driving north on Matlin Road in a 2002 gold Chevrolet Silverado, attempted to turn onto Ramona Oaks Road.

Pennings said Beason failed to yield and entered the path of Robert Ramirez, who was traveling eastbound on Ramona Oaks in his 2004 GMC Sierra.

"The GMC collided with the left front of the Chevy," according to Pennings.

According to the Medical Examiner, the 45-year-old male was a Ramona resident.

Beason was extricated from his truck Friday evening and then transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido where he died late Monday afternoon, the Medical Examiner stated.

A cause of death for Beason has not yet been released and the Medical Examiner said an autopsy has not yet been performed.
