Donald Schumacher Dies at 78; Called Community Leader, Faithful to Country

Donald Schumacher's family said he enjoyed a good martini, loved his wife's home cooking and was a connoisseur of fine wines.

Donald Eugene Schumacher was born to Gilbert Charles Schumacher and Catherine Marguerite Clark in Laramie, Wyoming on July 20, 1935. He entered the Kingdom of Heaven where he was greeted by our Lord with open arms on July 24, 2013. He was 78 years old.
Don moved to Woodland, CA in 1947 and attended Holy Rosary Grammar School and graduated from Woodland High School. He attended Oklahoma State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Systems Management at USC and an MBA from UCLA.

He enjoyed a successful 21 year military career and retired as a Major in the US Air Force on Aug. 1, 1976. He went on to have another 20 year career in the aerospace industry and retired to Ramona in 2001 with his wife Jeanette.

Don was an avid golfer, community leader, active church member and faithful servant to his country and our Lord. He enjoyed a good martini, loved Jeanette’s home cooking and was a connoisseur of fine wines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Catherine Schumacher. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Schumacher, his sister, Judith K. Schumacher, his children, Michael (Brenda) Grabbe, Laura Grabbe, Kim (William) Anderson, David and Scott Schumacher and Traci (Douglas) Thompson.

He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, plus one on the way: Megan, Ashley, Allison, John Michael, Alex, Brian, Mitchell, Skyler, Dylan and Kaycee.  He is a great grandfather to Nathan & Joshua plus one on the way.  

He is also survived by many cousins including Vivian Grant, Judy Sheppard and Terri Schumacher. He leaves numerous lifelong friends who, with the rest of us, will miss him dearly and look forward to seeing him again when we are so blessed to be greeted by him in heaven.

A viewing from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Bonham Bros & Stewart Mortuary, 321 12th St. A reception will immediately follow from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the San Vicente Resort & Golf Club, 24157 San Vicente Rd.

Funeral Service to be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 5 at Grace Community Church, 1234 Barger Place, Ramona.
