Updates on Ramona Road Projects: Dye Rd., Ramona St., San Vicente Rd. and 13th St.

You might notice driving around town that the county is busy in Ramona working on a number of projects to improve roads and traffic, from San Vicente Road to Main Street. The community was updated Wednesday on when some of those projects should be completed.

A flier outlining the status of road improvement projects taking place in town was distributed at the Ramona Revitalization Steering Committee meeting Wednesday. The meeting was a chance for county employees and local stakeholders to rundown the list of projects that need approval or funding by the county and get on the same page about them.

The estimates on the flier may change depending on how the Ramona Planning Group votes at the Dec. 5 meeting. The group is scheduled to consider whether to prioritize improvements at the intersection of Route 67 Highland Valley and Dye roads at the cost of delaying other projects, such as the Dye Road and Ramona Street extensions.

The planning group helped push through the project report for the Dye/Highland Valley improvements sooner than expected, and elements from the county suggest the project get started sooner rather than let it gather dust and be forgotten, Chair Jim Piva said at the last RCPG meeting. Funding exists, but not for all projects at once.

"The money will stay in Ramona, but you need to decide the projects," said County Supervisor Dianne Jacob.

Here's a rundown on the status of projects:

Dye Road Extension

New road construction from Ramona Street to San Vicente Road, phase one of a future South Bypass.
Estimated date of completion- Second Quarter 2018

Ramona Street Extension
New road construction from Boundary Avenue to Warnock Drive.
Estimated date of completion- Third Quarter 2017

San Vicente Road Improvements
Road widening for bike lane and realignment improvements including a pathway for pedestrians and equestrians, from Warnock Drive to 1,000 feet east of Wildcat Canyon Road.
Estimated date of completion- Spring 2016

13th / Maple Streets Bridge
New bridge and road construction from Main Street to Walnut Street. Should help improve traffic flow around the center of town. County says they are battling with Caltrans on the details of the project.
Estimated date of completion- Third Quarter 2018

Dye Rd. / Highland Valley Rd. / SR-67 Intersection Improvements
Add additional traffic and turn lanes, synchronize traffic signal for maximum efficiency.
Project report is complete and design for the project is half done. A vote at the next RCPG meeting will decide the project timeline.
