Ramona Talent Show Welcomes 'The Beatles'

Ramona Town Hall Board of Directors will bring their own version of The Beatles to town.

Why is Sandee Salvatore shopping around for long-haired black wigs? It has nothing to do with her antique business, but it does tie in with her position as secretary of the Ramona Town Hall Board of Directors.

A major fundraiser for the Town Hall is the upcoming Ramona’s Got Talent Show. Spearheaded by Honorary Mayor Sharon Davis, the theme is set in the 1950s and '60s music era. The directors will perform a musical skit based on The Beatles’ rendition of “Yellow Submarine,” renamed for the occasion to “We All Live in the Valley of the Sun.”

Salvatore needs wigs to complete the costumes for directors Woody Kirkman, Darrell Beck, Bob Krysak and Bob Hailey.

“I’m asking each of the guys to go into their closets and see if they can’t come up with a black jacket and a skinny white tie,” Salvatore said. “I’m Yoko Ono. All I have to come up with is a black turtleneck, bell-bottom black pants and a scarf. And I have all that in my closet.”

The personas of the other Beatles have yet to be determined, except for one.

“We figured Woody’s got the best voice,” Salvatore said. “He will sing and the rest of us will just do the backup. He will be John Lennon.”

The Rockettes, a song-and-dance group formed for last year’s Ramona’s Got Talent Show, will be back this year but with 1950s garb instead of their World War II uniforms.

The Rockettes continue to perform at various events throughout the year. Whenever the dancers are given money for their performances, they donate the funds to the Town Hall. The Town Hall board received a $50 check at its July 20 meeting from the Rockettes.

The second annual Ramona’s Got Talent Show will begin at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10 with dinner at Ramona Outdoor Community Center, 421 Aqua Lane. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door; however, Salvatore said they expect to sell all 400 tickets before the event.

Tickets can be purchased from any of the board members or at Ramona Antique Fair, 734 Main St. For more information, Salvatore can be contacted at 760-789-0574.
