Ramona Valley Emerging Vineyards and Wineries—a New Blog

Come follow the development, growth and community of the new Ramona Valley AVA, an emerging wine destination.

When asked by the editor of the Patch to start a wine-blog for Ramona, I thought “how exciting” and reflected on how far Ramona has come in terms of vineyards, wineries, and award winning wines.   When Micole and I moved to Ramona in 2004, we knew we wanted to live an agricultural lifestyle, but were not sure exactly what that would be?  Horses, chickens....grapes?   We attended a meeting of the Ramona Valley Vineyard Association (RVVA), meeting new friends, and continue to attend each month, where we warmly welcome new members.

In this blog, I hope you will get to know and eventually love, the little valley we call home, and the friends we call family.   For the emergence of a new wine region really is like the coming together of a new family.   We share equipment, advice, and experiences, lending a hand at the installation of a new vineyard, and getting up early on the weekends to help at the harvest.  For a wine region to succeed, we must embrace each other, and work together, rather than compete, which is what makes the wine industry a community.  I encourage you to ask questions, get out, and become a part of the vineyards and tasting rooms of Ramona.

Thanks Karen - so exciting to follow and share all the great things going on with the local vineyards, wineries and vintners - it will be one more thing that makes Ramona special, and helps keep us rural! And...vineyards go great with horses, and make great firebreaks!

I have a question, do you do any shipping of wines, would be interested in your selections of flavors. And I do agree wine goes good with horses and great friends!!

Thanks Becky, we (Ramona Ranch) is not yet shipping our wines, but you can check out several great, local wineries, with contact information in the Ramona Valley Wine Region Magazine, and contact them directly - thanks for your interest in our local wines! http://ramonavalleywineregion.com is the website.

Did you first ask him WHAT he was spraying? Is it possible that he heard some attitude in yourRead More request and then felt that you were "just another nosy neighbor" ? -- Not that you are or were. -- If the overspray was in fact a listed chemical (such as glyphosate or 2,4,D) then you are within your right to be concerned. If he he unresponsive or unwilling to allay your concerns then it is your right and responsibility to contact the authorities. In the case that he was (or you have sound reason to believe, i.e., dead plants on your property) using a listed chemical such as above then contact California Department of Pesticide Regulation at the Southern Regional Office 714-279-7690. I will warn you that if you only suspect misuse and have no proof, there will be nothing done. Good Luck.

I'm a 20-year vet. While in the US NAVY serving on Okinawa, Japan, I managed the Command Duty OfficeRead More for 1-1/2 years. I had 3 flag poles for US, UN, and Japan. Winds were typically over 40 to 50 mhp and flag wear was constant. I had to destroy flags frequently. My "ceremony" was private, out of public site, the flag was in a paper bag, never seen by anybody. I don't care who you are or your intentions, but a burning US flag should never be a ceremony, nor recorded, unless in protest against US policy.

I totally agree with this C.C.!! How awful to see our trees treated in this most disrespectful way!Read More Not only does driving nails into the trees open them up to disease, it looks so very tacky! Come on, folks, isn't there a better way to advertise your yard sales???

I think signs should have an date & address on them, that way if they are left up afterwards,Read More there would be some way to fine people. Place the fine on the property. I love garage sales, and signs are necessary, but they have to come down afterwards.
