Neighborhood CrossFit Cleans Up at Regional Championship

On Saturday, more than 70 teen and pre-teen athletes from all over Southern California came together at beautiful Cerritos College in Norwalk for the first annual Beast League SoCal Regional Championships. Following three grueling events and eight hours of competition the local team from Ramona’s own Neighborhood Crossfit stood victorious, crowning champions in two different age divisions and recording top three podium finishes in three others.

“For some of our athletes this was the final event in which they will be able to participate and it was a fantastic experience to have so many of them go out on the podium,” said gym owner and lead trainer David Ross. “In the 13U girls division alone we managed to record a first, a third, and very close fourth and fifth place finishes.  And in the 18U division, Mackenzie Pilley managed a strong 3rd place showing to mark her final competition appearance as she heads off to attend college in the Fall.”

Neighborhood athletes and their families started the day off early with many of them carpooling from Ramona at 5am to make it up to Norwalk for 8am registration. Once there the ten-member team competed in three different events split among five different age groups ranging from 9U (male & female) to 18U (male & female). Individual events or “WODs” ranged from a timed 40-yd dash, to Olympic lifts to bodyweight movements like pull-ups. Event placements were determined either by the order of finish or by which athlete completed the most repetitions during a workout event. Overall placements were determined by an average of each of the athlete’s three WOD performances.
