Big Waves and Dangerous Rip Currents for Labor Day Weekend

The rips will subside later in the weekend.

Heading for the ocean this holiday weekend? San Diego county beachgoers will see big waves caused by a southwesterly swell coming up from a powerful storm near New Zealand.

According to the National Weather Service, waves will be in the 5-to 8-
foot range through Sunday. A high surf advisory issued earlier in the week has been extended through 9 p.m. Sunday.

Dangerous rip currents will also be present but are expected to gradually subside late in the weekend, the Weather Service advised.

Highs along the coast are expected to be mostly in the 70s throughout
the weekend. The valleys and mountains are expected to reach into the 80s and low 90s, and in the deserts, triple-digit highs are likely.
