James Dukes Elementary School held a "Salute To Heroes" assembly and BBQ on May 17.

The ROTC presented colors and various military family members from James Dukes students were honored.

"The children have been working hard making decorations and the children of past and present military personnel will be honored for their families service," Jane McClain wrote Patch. "This was originally planned to happen on Memorial Day but due to the schools furlough it was pushed up."
