The HOME Clinic

Who: Homeowners struggling to pay their mortgage, including those facing foreclosure.

 

What: The HOME Clinic, an educational event of the Housing Opportunity Collaborative, a coalition of nonprofit organizations and housing agencies in the San Diego region that helps homeowners free of charge. HOC is a U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved housing counseling agency. Since June 2007, more than 10,000 San Diego County homeowners have attended a HOME Clinic.  The event is also sponsored by the San Diego County Library, East San Diego County Association of Realtors and the Legal Aid Society of San Diego.

Homeowners receive free one-on-one counseling about their individual mortgage situation from lending representatives, attorneys and housing officials, all of whom are certified and trained by HUD.

When: May 19, 2012, from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.

 

Registration is recommended. To register, send an email with name, address and phone number to HOMEClinic@housingcollaborative.org, or call (619) 283-2200 or (800) HOC-0503. Homeowners are encouraged to bring loan documents; latest mortgage statement; notices that homeowner might have received from Lender; and/or any documentation related to homeowner’s mortgage/housing situation.

 

Where: Ramona Library, 1275 Main St., Ramona, CA 92065;

 

How: The HOME Clinic began in June 2007 as a way to provide homeowners with access to free community resources.

 

Why: By the end of their one-on-one counseling at The HOME Clinic, homeowners will leave with an “Action Plan” to save their home and avoid foreclosure. Among the options that are available at the HOME Clinic:

 

         Home Affordable Refinance Program, which reduces monthly mortgage payments even for borrowers who are underwater on their loans;

         “Keep Your Home California,” a program which helps homeowners catch up on mortgage payments, relocate after a short sale, or cut their principals;

         A short sale, which helps homeowners avoid foreclosure.
