Ramona's Got H.E.A.R.T.

Ramona buildings to be adorned by murals if Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project has its way.

Many groups in Ramona are striving to positively affect the economic vitality of our town. One of the more unique efforts under way is the pursuit by several individuals to adorn some of Ramona's bland commercial walls with thematic and artistic murals. Those behind the effort include Elaine Lyttleton, Judy Nachazel, Stephanie Norvell, Donna Zick and Rob Lewallen, as well as this author.

The organization, seeking a federal 501(c)(3) non-profit exemption, is called Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project. H.E.A.R.T. is an acronym for Historic buildings and Hiking trails, Equestrian industry, Arts and antiques, Rural country vistas and drives, and Tasting fine wines and cuisine.

The effort is adjunct to other pursuits to increase tourism in Ramona, such as the development of a budding winery industry and the established antique venues, all providing a backdrop to the many events held in Ramona by various groups and organizations throughout the year.

The goal of Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project is to fund and facilitate the placement of up to five murals each year in Ramona, decorating the town with attractive works of art and providing a draw for tourism. Other communities, such as Chemainus, British Columbia, which boasts 39 murals, have reaped the benefit of substantial increases in tourism as a result of the town's murals.

Potential sites for the first group of murals include at Main and Tenth, the and . What a boost for Ramona this will be! Keep your eyes peeled. Walls in town will soon become windows to artistic representations of historical and thematic scenes!
