Schildhouse was injured in a May 29 accident on state Route 78 that involved a Ramona teen and a Chula Vista Police officer.

After suffering injuries from being rear-ended by a possibly-texting teen on state Route 78 and colliding with a Chula Vista Police officer's motorcycle, Ramona Water Board Director Rex Schildhouse publicly thanked Ramona's team of first responders who extricated him from his vehicle.

"There were a lot of people at the accident scene," Schildhouse said of the May 29 incident. "[Men from] Cal Fire and Intermountain (Fire and Rescue) were responsible for extricating me with very little pain."

Schildhouse applauded the local responder's use of advanced life support and was "Very happy" an ambulance from Barona was able to assist in the three-vehicle accident.

"Thank you to all of you," Schildhouse said, his arm in a sling. "We need advanced life support up here."

Ramona Municipal Water District General Manager also thanked Cal Fire and the other agencies for their attentiveness to the victims in the crash.

The 17-year-old Ramonan who hit Schildhouse may face charges. According to California Highway Patrol, the teen girl was using her phone while driving with a provisional license.

The Chula Vista Police officer involved in the accident suffered major injuries but was expected to make a full recovery, according to the U-T San Diego.
