Bill Tamburrino Is Keynote Speaker for Memorial Day Service

Vietnam veteran and Ramona High School coach Bill Tamburrino will be the keynote speaker at Monday's Memorial Day service at . Ramona Community Brass Band will perform Taps at the service, which is sponsored by .
The VFW will distribute Buddy Poppies at local shopping centers Friday through Sunday. Ramona Boy Scout Troop 768 also will place poppies on more than 500 veterans' graves at the cemetery on Friday. Some of the graves go back to WWI, John Vargas, cemetery district manager, told Patch. They range from the Spanish American War to Iraq. The cemetery was established in 1893. About 3,000 people are interred there.
Monday's service will begin at 10 a.m. at Nuevo Memory Gardens, 532 Ash St.

"At this time we are expecting two Gold Star families," VFW 3783 Adjutant Douglas Scholl told Patch. "The families of Jeremiah Santos and ." The Gold Star parents are those who lost a son, daughter or grandchild in combat.
Army Spc. Ojeda died at 22 when his convoy was attacked in Iraq. Army Cpl. Santos was killed in Iraq when an explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

VFW District Commander Dale Smith will present flowers to the Gold Star Mothers on Monday.
Following the service there will be a short ceremony at the WWII memorial
on 9th Street near the baseball field by the offices of and at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in front of on Highway 67.
At 1 p.m. VFW Post 3783 will host a picnic for the public in its Bobby Watt
Memorial Park, at 2247 Kelly Ave.
