Supervisors' Vote to Improve Ramona Road
County supervisors moved to make a stretch of road in Ramona safer Wednesday, voting unanimously to seek bids and authorize building the long-discussed San Vicente Road Improvement project.
The estimated $32.8 million project will widen and straighten out sections of 2.25-miles of San Vicente Road — a narrow, hilly, winding, mostly two-lane road that has been the scene of dozens of accidents, including fatalities, over the years as Ramona has grown in size.
San Vicente Road is the main road leading from Ramona’s Main Street to San Diego Country Estates — the development where roughly one-third of Ramona’s 30,000 residents live. It also intersects with Wildcat Canyon Road, which has seen increasing traffic since Barona Resort and Casino was built.
The project would straighten out portions of San Vicente Road from Warnock Drive to Wildcat Canyon Road to reduce the number of hills and curves and improve sight lines for drivers.

The project would also fix inadequate drainage, move overhead utility lines underground, install two bicycle lanes and create a graded parkway along the road.
The County expects to start construction on the project this fall and complete it in spring of 2016.
