Snow Falls to 2,000 Feet Around Ramona

Lake Sutherland appeared as an alpine calendar shot Saturday morning.

Ramona woke to blooming yucca set against a backdrop of white-dusted local mountains Saturday.

Mt. Gower and Mt. Woodson both had a little snow. Lake Sutherland was shrouded in snow. Fishermen were surprised.

Julian, Wynola, Santa Ysabel, Mt. Laguna and Lake Cuyamaca also received snow Friday night. Highway 78 between Ramona and Julian was free of snow Saturday morning. Sunrise Highway leading to Mt. Laguna was reported to be closed at times.

A newspaper carrier wrote this to Ramona Patch after being out on the roads at 2 a.m. Saturday:

"It was SNOWING from the bottom of Santa Maria Road all the way  up. I was sitting at Pine Hill Egg Ranch and I'm telling you the flakes were the size of hockey pucks. Julian's covered but the snow plows are doing a good job."
