Ramona Library Grand Opening Tuesday

Supervisor Dianne Jacob and County Librarian Jose Aponte will attend the event.

A ceremony at 11 a.m. Tuesday will mark the grand opening of the new Ramona Library at 1275 Main Street. The 19,400-square-foot building is filled with books and other materilas. The building is about three times bigger than the older library at Main and Montecito.

Following Tuesday's ceremony, the library will be open for business until 8 p.m. The music ensemble Silverwood will perform at 12:15 p.m. There will be storytime for youngsters at 3 p.m. along with face painting, video games for teenagers and library tours.

Ramona High School Jazz Band will perform at 4 p.m., crafts and games will continue until 5 p.m. Mariachi Diamante is due to perform at 5:30 p.m.. Light Mexican refreshments will be served.

Library construction began in fall 2009. The County Board of Supervisors approved $11.6 million for the project, with private groups raising more than $1 million.
