PowPAC's ‘Rainmaker’ Plays Through Nov. 20
The story is based on the life of Charles Hatfield who was hired by the city of San Diego to bring rain, but was never paid after downpours washed out a dam, killing several people.
“The Rainmaker,” a story written about America’s Finest City with a twist of romance and dash of comedy, is playing until Nov. 20 at PowPAC, Poway’s community theater.
Directed by Mary Smith and produced by Lynn Wolsey, the story is loosely based on an actual event that took place in 1916 in drought-torn San Diego. A "rainmaker" named Charles Hatfield was contracted by the city to bring rain, but he was never paid after torrential downpours overflowed dams and caused damaging floods. Several people lost their lives.
