Pilots Get Younger Every Year—at Least at Ramona Airport Open House

Tuskegee Airmen member and former pilot of Air Force One for Reagan among celebs on hand.

Jacob VanSant, 7, got a taste of flying over the weekend, hearing from George Watson, county contract airport manager and member of the Benjamin O. Davis Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, and retired Air Force Col. James Trotman Jr., who piloted Air Force One for President Ronald Reagan. An estimated 2,000 people attended the annual Ramona Airport Open House, according to a county report. Visitors were treated to tours of the air traffic control tower, U.S. Forest Service and Calfire operations, and the Classic Rotors helicopter museum. The P-51 Mustang and other antique military aircraft were on display and seen in low-pass “fly-bys.”
