Lightning Show in Borrego Springs

Flash flood watch Tuesday for mountains and deserts.

Borrego Springs and Ranchita firefighters responded to two small fires on a ridge above Borrego Springs at 4 Tuesday morning. The fires were inacessible by vehicle. Cal Fire spokesman Mike Mohler told Patch Tuesday that Cal Fire did not dispatch to the fires.

It's possible heavy rain extinguised them, according to Borrego sources.

The cause of the fires hasn't been reported but there was thunder and lightning "all morning" until about 10:40 a.m., according to Borrego Springs fire station.

The National Weather Service advises of a flash flood watch for urban and small streams in San Diego county mountains and deserts. The service warns residents to go inside if they hear thunder. Also, motorists are advised not to drive through water; one foot of water is sometimes enough to sweep away a vehicle.

The watch is in effect through 11 p.m.Tuesday.
