Lakeside Man Arrested After Reporting He'd Killed His Wife

Andrew Richard Welch was booked into jail, after deputies found a woman's body in a home in the 11300 block of El Nopal.

A man who contacted the Santee Sheriff's station Wednesday saying he believed he had killed his wife has been booked into San Diego Central Jail.

Early Wednesday afternoon Andrew Richard Welch gave staff at the station an address in the 11300 block of El Nopal where he said he had lived with his wife, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. Deputies found a woman's body inside the home. Her name and the cause of death have not been released, pending the Medical Examiner's report.

"Although we are in the early stages of this investigation, this case is being treated as a murder based on observable injuries sustained by the victim," Lt. Larry Nesbit stated in the release, which was issued Thursday.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Detail at 858-974-2321 or at the after hours number, 858-565-5200. People can also leave information on the Crime Stoppers line at 888-580-(TIPS)8477.
