Julian Couple's Home Destroyed — Images From the Scene

We now have photos from the Sheriff's Department of damage likely caused by accidentally ignited propane vapors at a home near Julian Tuesday.

The Sheriff's Department has provided photos taken at a home in Manzanita Hills, near Julian, where an explosion likely caused by propane sent two people to the hospital Tuesday night.

A man and woman in their 60s were driven by ambulance to a parking area then airlifted to UCSD Medical Center, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. CalFire stated at the time that the couple were suffering from severe trauma from the event and that one of them was also badly burned. The injuries were not life threatening, the news release states.

The explosion happened in the 3200 block of Salton Vista Drive, near Delores Drive. It was still being investigated Wednesday but is thought to have been caused by accidental ignition of propane vapors. The explosion happened soon after 6 p.m. Tuesday. The woman was injured by falling debris.

The home was deemed uninhabitable by the Julian/Cuyamaca Fire Department, which responded to the incident along with CalFire.
