Hiker in Deadly Cedar Creek Area Fall Was from El Cajon

The teenager was hiking with family when he fell from a steep cliff, the medical examiner reports.

Emergency crews were called to the for the eighth time since the Fourth of July weekend began. This time, a hiker had fallen to his death.

The Medical Examiner's Office reports that the 16-year-old male was from El Cajon.

He was hiking with family when he apparently fell down a steep cliff. The reports states that he landed in the water below and was subsequently airlifted to an awaiting ambulance. CPR efforts were initiated but the hiker failed to respond and his death was pronounced while in the ambulance.

An examination has not yet been performed and the young man's name has not been released pending notification of his immediate family. CalFire reported Wednesday that the teen fell approximately 80 feet and hit rocks, sustaining "massive head injuries."

Another teen who was injured was taken to Palomar Medical Center, the Sheriff's Department reported.
