A change in construction schedule will permit Highway 78 between Indian Oaks Road and Weekend Villa Road near Ramona to remain open Thursday through Sunday this week, Cal Trans reports. next Monday through Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to allow crews to work on stabilizing a rock slope in the area.
Cal Trans stated that due to the nature of this safety project, the work can only be done during daylight hours and may require extra days, depending on weather and other construction-related activities. The detour requires motorists to allow extra time for out-of-direction travel during the closure.
The detour for westbound motorists from Ramona and Julian is southbound Highway 67 to westbound Scripps Poway Parkway and then to Interstate 15.
Eastbound motorists should take I-15 to eastbound Scripps Poway Parkway and
then onto northbound Highway 67 to Highway 78.
Cal Trans has reported to Patch that in the event of a major emergency, they could open Highway 78 "fairly quickly" to allow for traffic.
