High Winds Expected Thursday and Friday

Gusts of up to 60 mph are possible for the Ramona and Julian areas.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for winds moving into San Diego county's inland and mountain areas Thursday morning, strengthening by the afternoon and growing gusty over Thursday night into Friday.

A wind advisory is in effect for Ramona from 4 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday. This means winds of at least 35 mph are possible. The weather service expects gusts of up to 60 mph for the Ramona area.

Winds are expected to be higher than that in the mountain areas. A wind advisory is in effect for the Julian area from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, turning into a wind warning for the rest of Thursday and overnight until 1 p.m. Friday. Sustained high winds with gusts of up to 65 mph can be expected.

The weather service warns motorists to watch for broken tree limbs or downed power lines in the mountain areas. The gusts could make driving difficult in high profile vehicles along Highway 78 or Interstate 8.
