Mine Rescuers Will Work Tonight To Extricate Body in Desert Cavern

The Medical Examiner will determine whether it could be the body of missing hiker Guillermo Pino, who disappeared Easter Sunday.

Mine rescuers from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department are working tonight in an Anza-Borrego desert cavern to extricate a body discovered Saturday.

The body could be that of missing hiker Guillermo Pino, 26, who disappeared in the area, called Arroyo Tapiado, on Easter Sunday, April 8.

Search and rescue personnel and volunteers suspended the search for Pino by April 17 but his family continued to hunt for him in the area where he went missing while hiking with them. They reported the discovery of the body in a mud cave on Saturday. Mine rescuers are preparing to bring the body out by working under a chamber beneath a 60-foot shaft in an unstable area.
