Former Rep. Hunter Joins PAC To Keep National Defense Strong

Duncan L. Hunter, former GOP leader of the House Armed Services Committee, is on the board of Fight 4 America.

Ramona's retired congressman Duncan L. Hunter has joined the board of a new political action committee that plans to promote a vigorous national defense strategy. The PAC, called Fight 4 America, is set to launch in San Diego on Tuesday. Organizers plan to unveil TV commercials that focus on defense budgets under President Barack Obama.

The board of directors includes Hunter, an El Cajon Republican, who for years was the GOP leader of the House Armed Services Committee, and Republican political strategist Ed Rollins.

Hunter's son Duncan D. Hunter succeeded his father to represent the 52 Congressional District and now sits on the House Armed Services Committee. At a business forum last month, Rep. Duncan D. Hunter said the president's cuts in defense are "scary for San Diego."

The 52nd District includes Ramona, Poway, Lakeside, Santee, El Cajon, La Mesa, Spring Valley and Borrego Springs.

The senior Hunter served 14 consecutive terms.

A mission statement from Fight 4 America says the organization wants to keep "America's defenses strong, ready and able to defend our nation's interests, and to ensure that the men and women in uniform who defend our country should be the best equipped, trained and supported in the world."

Spokesman Tony Manolatos said Fight 4 America expects to be around long after the November election—serving as a watchdog, holding the president and Congress accountable, and supporting national security and the nation's military personnel.
