El Cajon Courthouse Open Again

Officials closed the building after a short circuit Monday.

The East County courthouse in El Cajon is open again today, following closure Monday due to a short circuit in the electrical system.

Smoke detectors were set off, but Superior Court spokesperson, Karen Dalton, reported that there was no evidence of a fire.

Dalton reported that the backup systems were inoperable.

"We could have started the main building power, but we could not be sure of where and how the short circuit occurred," she said Monday. "So rather than further damage the system, we followed the recommendation to close the building to properly repair the electrical system."

People with traffic cases and misdemeanor arraignments should appear within the next seven calendar days to have their cases heard.
