Democratic State Convention Continues This Weekend in San Diego

Gov. Jerry Brown and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi are due to address the gathering Saturday morning.

The three-day Democratic State Convention began Friday at the San Diego Bayfront Hilton, with caucuses of delegates sharing similar demographics or interests and a chair's reception which included a speech by Van Jones, the Obama administration's former special adviser on green jobs.

Gov. Jerry Brown and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, are scheduled to address the convention general session on Saturday morning. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., will speak at lunch, and Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., at dinner. Soul singer Eli "Paperboy" Reed will perform at a concert Saturday night.

More than 3,000 activists, delegates and volunteers are expected to attend the convention, which will end Sunday with a general session to adopt a platform, make candidate endorsements and take positions on June ballot measures.
