Christopher Carioscia's Death Remains a Mystery

The Sheriff's Department is asking for anyone who may know how the El Capitan High School student died to contact them.

The death of an El Capitan High School teenager whose body was found on Barona Indian Reservation still remains partly mystery. The student's burned out car was found on the reservation Oct. 27, 2010, the day after he disappeared. He had told his mother that he was going surfing in Pacific Beach, but he never returned.

An autopsy performed on 17-year-old Christopher Carioscia showed that he died of wounds from a .357-caliber pistol, probably a revolver.

Sheriff's homicide detectives are asking anyone who may know anything about the incident to contact them.

Detectives found Carioscia's body near San Vicente Reservoir on Dec. 4.

During the investigation, detectives found a plastic bag containing .357 bullets similar to those used to kill Carioscia, a Sheriff's spokesman reported. The bag was reported to have been found in an area of the reservation where associates of Carioscia had been seen on other occasions.

Detectives have identified several "persons of interest.'' A surveillance camera may have captured video of people the victim was with on the day he died, a spokesman said, and it might have been recorded at a store. No motive for the killing has been reported.

Anyone with more information about the killing is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters can remain nameless and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
