Checks Delayed a Day for Ramona's Unemployed, Disabled

The delay will affect checks for unemployment, disability and paid family leave.

Benefits payments will be delayed by at least one day next week while the state's employment department temporarily shuts down its database for system upgrades.

The delay will affect checks for unemployment, disability and paid family leave. The latest figures from the state Employment Development Department (EDD) showed a slight increase in Ramona's unemployment rate to 6.8 percent.

“We apologize to our customers for any inconveniences experienced during this time and encourage them to plan their personal finances accordingly," Sharon Hilliard, the department's chief deputy director, said in a statement.

The EDD will be making changes to its online system to offer more features to users. More details about all of the services affected by the temporary shutdown, which is expected to end at 6 a.m. Tuesday, are available here.
