Barona Powwow Begins Tonight

Drumming, dancing and the colorful Grand Entry are in store for visitors through Sunday night.

Native Americans from throughout the state are expected to attend the 41st Annual Barona Powwow this weekend.

Gourd dancing and the Grand Entry will kick off the event tonight at Barona Baseball Field on Barona Indian Reservation in Lakeside. Dancing begins at 6 p.m. and the Grand Entry is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Powwow will continue through Sunday night.

The baseball field is at 1932 Wildcat Canyon Road.

On Saturday and Sunday, dancers and drummers will perform from 1 p.m. onward. The Grand Entry will be at 7 p.m. each evening. There will be contests for dancing and drumming, with more than $60,000 in prize money. Admission is free.
