Massive Mexico Brush Fire Contained on U.S. Side

The blaze near Jacumba was burning to the east late Thursday.

Update Thursday afternoon: Firefighters in the United States contained this side of the blaze. Cal Fire reported that it would continue to monitor the fire in Mexico, which was moving to the east.

Cal Fire/San Diego Fire Authority on Thursday fought a huge brush fire along the US/Mexico border. The fire in Mexico was approximately 600 acres and jumped into the U.S., reported Cal Fire spokesman Michael Mohler.

The fire was south of Boundary Peak near Jewel Valley (TB Map 430 D9) between the communities of Boulevard and Jacumba and was moving to the northeast on Thursday morning.

Cal Fire responded to the incident at 9:16 a.m. The cause was unknown.

No structures were threatened as of noon Thursday.
