Woman Falls Asleep While Driving, Hits Embankment

A 30-year-old woman who fell asleep while driving was transported to the hospital after her car hit an embankment Tuesday afternoon, California Highway Patrol said.

CHP Officer Brian Kattke said the woman's car veered off state Route 78 between Second and Third Streets, heading southbound.

The car was traveling at 45 miles per hour in the embankment and became airborne as it jumped Third Street and hit a stop sign, Kattke said.

The impact stopped her vehicle, according to the CHP officer.

The woman, who was wearing her seatbelt and driving with a suspended license, was transported to Pomerado, Kattke said.

CHP said no alcohol was involved.

The victim was cited for driving with a suspended license.
