Two men accused of stealing cash, checks and sacramental wine from a Ramona church were scheduled to be arraigned today.

Christopher Szumski, 34, and Brandon Tye, 19, were arrested Tuesday during a traffic stop on Interstate 8 near Main Street in El Cajon, according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Hank Turner.

During interviews with detectives, Szumski and Tye allegedly admitted forcing entry to St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Ramona and ransacking it on April 14. Among the losses were safes, cash, checks and sacramental wine, Turner said.

The suspects also allegedly confessed to committing a residential burglary in San Marcos.

Stolen property was found during a search of the vehicle the pair were in at the time of the traffic stop, according to Turner.

Szumski and Tye were booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property.
