Two Hikers Plucked from Mountain After Overnight Ordeal

Two hikers from Colorado become trapped on a mountain near El Capitan Reservoir Dam, and their cries for help are answered.

Two hikers that had become trapped on a mountain near El Capitan Reservoir Dam were rescued by a sheriff’s helicopter Sunday morning, uninjured despite spending the night outdoors, according to authorities.

The two men from Colorado set out on a hike Saturday afternoon near the dam and quickly became trapped in the unfamiliar terrain, said Sgt. Scott Enyeart. Around 8:30 Sunday morning deputies received a radio call that a person yelling for help from the mountain was heard for about 10 minutes, and responding units arrived and also heard the cries for help, Enyeart said.

A sheriff’s helicopter was called in to search for a person in distress, and spotted the two stranded hikers. A rescue helicopter arrived shortly afterward and recovered the hikers from the side of the mountain, according to Enyeart.
